Having a dedicated, full-time community leader dedicated to supporting a community’s efforts to advance inclusive innovation and economic development is critical to this work. The following is a job description for an “Inclusive Innovation Fellow.” It is recommended this individual be housed within the local community foundation or Mayor’s office and have convening authority.

Inclusive Innovation Fellow Job Description:

The ideal Fellow is:

  • Local to the community who is able to engender trust;
  • Familiar with the local innovation economy and its important contributors;
  • A strong and trusted facilitator – especially across diverse constituencies;
  • A strong verbal communicator and exceptional writer;
  • A strategic thinker; and
  • Organized, has attention to detail, and effectively manages time.

Through the year-long commitment, the Fellow will serve as the central project manager for a strategic planning and implementation process including:

  • Organizing and supporting the local Innovation Council;
  • Helping plan the agendas and prepare meeting materials for all executive committee and innovation council meetings from the outset of the initiative. Ideally, meeting facilitation will be provided by the co-chairs with support from the Fellow;
  • Assisting in the coordination of committee meetings as needed;
  • Assisting the Innovation Council and community partners in creating and adhering to a detailed project plan and timeline, including critical thinking/problem solving as needed to move the work forward locally, and
  • Executing administrative tasks, such developing and distributing meeting summaries, letters, memos, etc.

Time commitment & Reporting Authority:

  • This is a year-long fellowship – ideally with the opportunity to stay engaged in the implementation of the work post-fellowship
  • The Fellow should be housed at the local community foundation or mayor’s office and be accountable to a local leader responsible for overseeing these efforts – likely one of the Co-Chairs of the Innovation Council.

Professional & Academic Qualifications:

  • The Fellow should have at least five years of work experience – ideally with relevant experience in project management and community facilitation
  • Bachelor’s Degree is required and relevant post-graduate is helpful

Suggested compensation (may vary by city): $60,000 with full employment benefits
